LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A winter storm is bringing snow flurries to the Las Vegas Strip and forcing officials to close the main highway between Southern and Central California.
There's a trace of snow Monday morning at Las Vegas' official measuring station, McCarran International Airport. National Weather Service meteorologist John Adair says there won't be any accumulation near the hotels and casinos, but at least one neighborhood has a dusting of white, and up to 6 inches of snow fell overnight in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. In California, the Highway Patrol shut down Interstate 5 about 70 miles north of Los Angeles because of blowing snow and icy conditions. Some motorists were stranded overnight. The weather service says the storm will dump more snow at elevations as low as 1,500 feet. © 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
